The Inspector General of Police,James Oppong-Boanuh has launched ‘operation Father Christmas’ on Tuesday with a rout march through some municipal streets of Accra.
‘Operation Father Christmas’ is an annual operational strategy of the Ghana Police Service undertaken to consolidate peace and security in the country and ensure that citizenry are safe before, during and after the Christmas and New Year festivities.
Launching this year’s ‘Operation Father Christmas’ at the Police headquarters in Accra Tuesday, the Inspector General of police, James Oppong-Boanuh, said personnel will be deployed to intensify security before, during and after the festivities.
Addressing police officers after the route match through the principal streets of Accra, the IGP said operation is to bring the police closer to the public and ensure that people celebrate the festive season devoid of fear of crime and other unruly behaviour.
He warned anyone or group of persons who intend to use the Christmas and New Year festivities to perpetrate any form of criminal activity to note that the Police and other security agencies will deal decisively with them.

‘We all know that this festive season is characterized by the movement with a large number of people from one part of the country to another particularly in the cities and the busiest areas to conduct business transactions attend religious activities particularly conversations, recreational events musical concerts and carnivals….” In addition, “the period comes with heavy vehicular and pedestrian traffic in cities and major towns in our country, because of most of this carnage on our roads, is usually drank driving, speeding, disregard for road traffic regulations are limited enforcement strategies.”

The Ghana Police Service is resolved to deal ruthlessly with all criminal elements and their unwanted activities. Let me sound a note of warning to anyone or group of persons who intend to use the Christmas and new year festivities to perpetrate any form of criminal activity to know that the police service together with other sister security organisations will deal decisively with them.
“We are increasing deployment of personal and intensify security not only at the densely populated areas like the shops malls, recreational entertainment centres, beaches,churches, streets and market centers but also in the new settlements. We also deploy uniform and plan clothe officers to monitor our full patrols within the communities, to prevent residential crimes.We intend to conduct intelligent led operations, stepup practice, day and night patrols, deploy motorbike patrols, increase highway patrols to tackle robberies and generally increase police visibility to build public confidence and offer maximum protection to all and sandry ”
